Free Note Name Generator (You will LOVE this!)

Oh. My. Gosh. Did you know about this  note name generator tool?

I didn’t until a few days ago. This just might change. your. life.

Ok, I’m being a little dramatic, but seriously, if you struggle to have note name sheets ready for each kid on their own notes, check this out…

This is a note name worksheet generator. A few clicks, hit print and you’re good to go.

Want a simple sheet to help your beginning trumpets learn their first 5 notes?

  1. Select your clef first (must do this first!)
  2. Select the range you want.
  3. Select the boxes for how many notes you want (up to 60 – select row first to make it faster)
  4. Click create worksheet.
  5. Print
  6. Smile.

Want a sheet to help your advanced flutes work on their high notes in sharp keys because of they’re All-State music?

  1. Select your clef first (must do this first!)
  2. Select the range you want.
  3. Select 1,2,3 sharps at the bottom (or just 3 if their song is in A major)
  4. Select the boxes for how many notes you want (up to 60 – select row first to make it faster)
  5. Click create worksheet.
  6. Print.
  7. Laugh. (as you watch their brains explode as they fill it out :-))

The one drawback is that the printed copy is not very clear – to the point where ledger lines are very difficult to see.  I fixed this by tracing over the ledger lines with a very sharp pencil before copying for the class. It is still a TON easier than making up a bunch of different worksheets. (Especially on the basic notes – extensive ledger line tracing may get a bit old…)

Special shout out to the band directors at After Sectionals for sharing this tool with so many people by way of their podcast/Facebook page. If you’d like to see how they use Mad Minute with their beginners, check out the short video on their Facebook page (you’ll need to scroll down – posted on Sept 13).

Hope you enjoy this tool and hope your students become note name masters!
