The Preservation Hall Lessons is a free resource for teachers. It is a collection of lesson plans developed by preservation hall musicians for all grade levels that are aligned with national arts and common core standards.
Lessons are categorized by grade, instrument or the genre/topic that you are looking for. The lessons range in topics from music and jazz theory, improvisation, singing, and the history of jazz. You can also find lessons on specific instruments, blues scales, and the Jazz culture and community.
All lessons include a full class plan with detailed notes and links to any additional resources the teachers may need. Under the ‘teacher resources’ tab, you can also find free webinar recordings on a variety of subjects.
If you teach jazz or are looking to incorporate jazz teaching into your curriculum in the future this is an incredible (and free!) resource to help get you started!
